Lydia Avsec is the creative mind behind Copilot Design, an independent studio specializing in branding, design and illustration. Based in Victoria, Lydia collaborates with arts organizations and cultural institutions to create thoughtful and impactful visual narratives.
With three decades of experience, Lydia blends meticulous research, conceptual thinking, and artistic skill to craft visual narratives that captivate and connect with audiences. Her approach reflects a deep respect for cultural heritage and storytelling, making her a trusted partner for clients in the arts and beyond. After working in a design agency in Ottawa, Lydia moved to Vancouver in 1996 and worked in a few agencies, gaining further experience in packaging, print production and the creative process. She spent a few years as an Art Director in Calgary before moving back to beautiful BC and back to hands on design. In 2009, she launched Copilot Design.
As a solo practitioner, Lydia oversees every stage of the creative process, ensuring each project is infused with her personal touch and artistic expertise. Her work with clients across Vancouver and beyond showcases her commitment to authenticity and meaningful collaboration. Lydia’s passion for celebrating arts institutions have established her as a distinctive voice in the creative industry. A fair portion of her illustrations are created with gouache on illustration board giving authenticity in a world saturated with computer generated art.
Lydia is also an abstract painter, and spends time in her studio at The Ministry of Casual Living. You can find her personal work at lydiaavsec.art on instagram. Lydia would like to acknowledge with gratitude that Copilot Design is located on the traditional and ancestral territories of the Lekwungen speaking (Songhees and Esquimalt) peoples.
